The success of a festival such as ours depends on so many people, not least our volunteers with their generous support and spirit.

Nic Brasch, Festival Director

Throughout the four days of the Melbourne Jewish Book Week Festival, we will need over 40 volunteers. Below is a description of each of the volunteer roles. Once you have found one that suits you, please use the link to sign-up.

All volunteers must be fully vaccinated and have a valid Working with Children Check card.

All volunteers will be briefed prior to the Festival and given an opportunity to meet other volunteers in a volunteer induction session (Zoom).

As a volunteer, you can stand/sit (subject to availability) and watch when not working at the event that you have volunteered for.

You will be given two complimentary tickets to any auditorium/theatrette session on Sunday 29 May (subject to availability – value 2 x $30 = $60)

Volunteer Roles:

  • Set-up/ pack-up—You will be given instructions on the day as to what needs to be done. Please be aware that this role may require lifting or carrying of objects.
  • Ticketing/ushering—You will be checking tickets and guiding people to the appropriate session. Please download the trybooking scanning app to your phone before arriving for your shift. Ushers will be responsible for notifying the moderators when there are 15 minutes and then 5 minutes left in the session. When the session is finished, please ensure there is water and clean cups and usher people out as quickly as possible as there is only a 15-minute turnaround time.
  • Festival entrance—You will greet festival attendees and check vaccination certificates.
  • Distribute lunch boxes—Some attendees on Sunday will have pre-purchased lunch boxes. You will tick off names and hand out the boxes.
  • Manage the Hubs—The Festival Hub is the lunch area. The Community Publishing Hub will be used for book launches/readings/signings. The green room is for presenters to relax and have something to drink. The book selling area is where the presenters will be selling and signing their books. You will ensure that these areas are kept tidy and that food and drink is available in the green room.
  • Tech support—You will assist the technical person with audio visual requirements for the presentations.
  • Help with book signing—You will assist with the selling and signing of books.
