MJBW Open Mic Session April 2021

Applications now open

MJBW is holding a virtual open mic event in 2021 — on Tuesday 20th April at 8 pm.

This is an opportunity for members of the MJBW community to read a short piece of original work (3-4 minutes — approximately 600-700 words) to an appreciative audience. The event will take place as a live video event, broadcasting over Zoom to registered event attendees. Readers will need a device with a webcam, and a quiet place to broadcast from.

You will not be judged on the quality of your work. Think of it as an opportunity to have your voice heard. It can be of any genre: fiction or non-fiction, memoir or a poem.

Every effort will be made to include all submissions, but depending on the numbers, the Director may need to curate the final selections. All applicants will be advised in advance on the status of their submission.

Participants will also have the opportunity to be published on the JWOW website.  JWOW will contact participants whose work they wish to publish. Please note: the MJBW open mic event is open to everyone.

Below, submit the piece of writing you’d like to read on the night.

Submissions close on Tuesday 6 April.

Copy and paste the piece of writing you would like to read here. This should be a short piece of original work, of 3-4 minutes duration when read aloud (600-700 words, approximately — it's a good idea to time yourself before submitting). All genres are welcome — from fiction to non-fiction, memoir to poetry.
