Hana Assafiri

Hana Assafiri OAM is a tireless advocate for women in the community continually stressing the need for greater intercultural understanding by creating opportunities via respectful cross-cultural relations. She is a spokesperson for Islamic feminism in Australia and was inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women (2017), which celebrated her contribution to local communities and human rights. In 2019 Hana was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for her services to women and the broader community. Her restaurant, the Moroccan Soup Bar, established in 1998, continues to provide employment for marginalised members of the community.
